How paying works.

Paying for yourself

Self-pay

  1. Call the team or use the booking form. You don't need a GP referral, though a GP letter is helpful.
  2. You'll be told the consultation fee for your chosen hospital before you book.
  3. If you need scans or tests, the cost is explained before anything is arranged. These are usually charged by the hospital.
  4. If surgery is the right option, the hospital gives you a fixed-price package so you know the full cost in advance.
Using health insurance

Insured

  1. Ask your GP for a referral letter. Most insurers need one before they authorise a specialist appointment.
  2. Call your insurer for an authorisation code, and check your outpatient limit and any excess.
  3. Give the team your insurer, membership number and authorisation code when you book.
  4. Scans and surgery usually need their own authorisation. The team will help with the codes and paperwork.

What does a new consultation include?

A full history and examination, a review of any scans you already have, a clear explanation of what is causing the problem, and a written plan. New consultations start from £300, depending on the hospital.

Are scans included in the consultation fee?

No. X-rays, ultrasound, CT and MRI scans are usually charged separately by the hospital. You'll always be told what is needed and why before anything is arranged. Scans explained.

How much does foot and ankle surgery cost?

It depends on the operation and the hospital. After your consultation, the hospital gives you a fixed-price package, so you know the full cost before you decide.

Do I need a GP referral?

Self-funding patients can book directly, though a GP letter is helpful. Most insurers need a referral before they authorise your consultation.

Which insurers is Mr Jeyaseelan recognised by?

Major insurers including Bupa, AXA Health, Aviva, Vitality, WPA, Cigna, Healix, The Exeter and Freedom Health Insurance. If yours isn't listed, call the team and they'll check for you.

What if my insurance doesn't cover everything?

Some policies have an excess or an outpatient limit. Check with your insurer before your appointment. Any amount your insurer doesn't pay is your responsibility, and the team will explain this before your treatment.
